07-08. The Year in Process.
After the flurry of activity last year, we are somewhat rested and gearing up for a new season with the Live-Arts Festival for the premiere of stuporwoman. This year our creative time is being generously supported by the Annenberg Center for the Performing Arts where we are officially IN RESIDENCE. This new 'stuporwoman' has also recently received support from Dance Advance and is being commissioned by Bates Dance Festival and the Live-Arts Festival through the National Performance Network Creation Fund.
Travelwise, this winter, Tania, assisted by Zoia, worked with students at Slippery Rock University to create a new piece based on the theme of 'impossible' an extension of the 'stuporwoman' exploration... and building on Tania's work last fall with students at the Ohio State University. We have just left Bennington College where Tania has been taught for the 6 weeks and where the company was in residence for a week as we kept working on 'stuporwoman' It continues to be a phenomenal experience to come into contact with these young, passionate dancers around the country and their equally incredible teachers. At the moments when we are most skpetical about the future of art, it has been helpful to remember that almost everything is cyclical and that the intensity and energy of this fiesty, irreverent, confused, frustrated, determined, hopeful, brilliant and incredibly talented group of newcomers will keep feeding this culture.
